RRCA Kalamazoo Valley Sports Medicine

Meeting Minutes of 12/13/2004

Members present: Bonnie Sexton, Jay Campbell, Ralph Meyer, Pat Galligan, Jane Wolf, Blaine Lam, and Scott Taylor

1. KAR/BCRR Merger

a. The merger will be put to a member’s present vote at the annual meeting on March 7, 2005. Any KAR member present at the meeting may vote.
b. The merger would be effective April 1. BCRR members renew in January will be making their checks out to KAR.
c. Any balance in the BCRR books at the time of the merger will be given to the Battle Creek YMCA in accord to their bylaws. KAR has no objections to this. The 2005 dues member’s pay will go to KAR.
d. BCRR is not looking to change the KAR name. KAR/BCRR has been determined to be too long.
e. The BCRR would like to continue its involvement with Battle Creek area runs such as Arbor Dash, Cereal City, and Human Race. KAR will be able to help in joint effort with the Dash and Human Race, but the Cereal City run is too close to the Kalamazoo Klassic to give a resource commitment to that race. Ralph brought up the need to update the RRCA policy to include the races that BCRR worked. Ralph needs to know the dates of each event for RRCA inclusion. Cereal City is run on June 9.

2. Board Structure for Next Year

a. Bonnie proposes that two new executive board positions be formed and filled by those from BCRR. One position being VP of Marketing with “Weekly Rundown”, community relations, and event listing responsibilities. The other position is one of Membership VP. It was determined that these two positions be elected positions.
b. A proposal of the creation of an appointed Advisor/Consultant position for the outgoing President was not discussed.
c. Granting the Board the right to create additional appointed positions as deemed necessary was not discussed.

3. Marathon Training Update

a. Bonnie provided the group with a flyer titled “Boston to Bayshore”.
b. This program has three different training plans and no fees. Except those Sunday fees to WMU to use their track for indoor workouts.
c. The program begins January 8 at Celery Flats in Portage.

4. One/One Run

a. We have a table spot near the entrance to the tent.
b. KAR membership forms will be placed in packets for those who pre-registered.
c. We need to take the KAR Championship winner gloves to the table for those people to pick up.

5. Indoor Track Workouts

a. Begin January 9
b. Set up will be handled by Bonnie, Bob, Julie, Elaine Neagle, and Rollin.

6. The Borgess Run Camp

a. Blaine brought in flyers for the camp.
b. They will place KAR forms into the camp packets.
c. There was talk to try to coordinate the two training groups for the Kal-Haven Run. The hope is to finish with everyone at nearly the same time and have a social gathering afterward.
